Client overview

DRA Homes

A well-established real estate developer operating across Chennai and Bangalore.

LocationChennai, India
Delivered byUniware Systems

Technologies used

AWS - EC2

Sophos - Firewall

The problem

Server failures and licensing gaps put daily operations at risk.

DRA Homes' previous data centre partner, Control S, was proving unreliable:

  • Frequent server failures, with drops in productivity and unstable internet connectivity
  • Windows and database licensing issues that were becoming impossible to maintain and upgrade without disrupting business applications
  • A need for stronger, partner-guided security around application access

Why migrate Microsoft workloads to AWS?

AWS and Uniware Systems help SMB customers run Microsoft workloads in a reliable, secure cloud environment, with flexible licensing options, in many cases avoiding the need for a separate license purchase altogether.

The solution

A lift-and-shift migration to AWS, then optimised for cost, reliability, and performance.

To move their ERP system (In4Velocity) to the cloud, the Uniware team, the application vendor, and DRA Homes agreed on a lift-and-shift approach to migrate quickly, then optimise the environment afterward. The application now runs on Windows Server 2022, supporting both IIS services and business applications.

Secure Access

A Remote Desktop Gateway was implemented on a Windows EC2 instance, giving secure access to the business application. For the ERP itself, an SSL VPN client was configured for individual end-user machines.

Network Resilience

Uniware extended DRA Homes' on-premises network to the cloud using their existing firewall appliance, with AWS VPN Service added as a backup path in case of firewall hardware failure.

Backup and Monitoring

An S3 bucket and CloudWatch alarms were enabled for VPC logs, along with backup of the database connected to both the ERP and business application.

Technologies used

EC2Firewall

Before and after

From frequent outages to reliable, secure access.

MetricBeforeAfter
Server reliabilityFrequent failures at previous data centreStable, AWS-hosted infrastructure
Remote accesUnstable connectivitySecure VPN access from anywhere
LicensingDifficult to maintain and upgradeResolved, running on latest supported versions
Data protection[Pending]Encrypted at rest and in transit

The results

More reliable, more secure, and easier to maintain.

  • Application is more responsive and resilient to failure
  • Secure access from anywhere via VPN tunnel
  • Licensing issues resolved, running on the latest supported versions
  • All communication and network traffic encrypted, at rest and in transit
  • [Migration duration + downtime figure, pending]
