DRA Homes, a real estate developer active in Chennai and Bangalore for 37 years. Their previous cloud provider kept going down unexpectedly, and they were stuck managing their own Windows and SQL Server licensing.
The problem
A previous cloud provider kept failing, with no clear explanation why.
DRA Homes' ERP system, In4Velocity, was already cloud-hosted before Uniware got involved, running with a previous cloud provider. That provider suffered from:
- Frequent, unexplained server outages, often requiring a manual restart to bring the system back online
- Windows and SQL Server licensing that DRA Homes had to purchase, track, and stay compliant on themselves
- No clear path to strengthen security around who could access the application remotely
Why migrate Microsoft workloads to AWS?
AWS and Uniware Systems help SMB customers run Microsoft workloads in a reliable, secure cloud environment, with flexible licensing options, in many cases avoiding the need for a separate license purchase altogether.
The solution
A new AWS server, tested in parallel for a week, cut over overnight.
Uniware built a new server for the ERP directly on AWS, and used the migration as an opportunity to upgrade both the operating system and the SQL Server database to current versions, work that required carefully checking the application still ran correctly against the newer database engine.
Parallel Testing
The new server ran alongside the live system for roughly a week, fully tested with no impact on DRA Homes' day-to-day operations. Only once everything was confirmed working did the team schedule the actual cutover.
The Cutover
Done overnight to avoid any disruption to business hours: a final backup was taken from the live system, the old server was switched off, and that backup was restored onto the new AWS server. The full process took four to six hours, entirely outside working hours.
Secure Access
Remote access to the ERP now goes through a Sophos firewall via an SSL VPN tunnel, verifying identity before anyone reaches the server. The AWS server itself also runs endpoint protection software directly on it as a second layer of defence.
